If you happen to own Samsung phone or tablet, then you should be familiar with Odin. It is basically a flashing tool by Samsung that allow users to flash custom ROMs, OTA updates, Kernels, Root Packages and many other similar things on your Samsung phone or tablet.
Mostly whenever Samsung releases any update OTA to their device, the developers usually get its zip file. As you know that official updates are rolled out in phases so those users who can’t wait for the OTA can use Odin to flash that firmware on their Samsung device.
However Odin tool comes with few limitations like it only recognizes .tar.md5 or simply .tar files and not any zip files. So that’s the only disadvantage of this tool which Samsung might fix in future update. However for the time being, we have to deal with it. So you have to search for only .tar or .tar.md5 files otherwise you won’t be able process them on your device using Odin, be it update files or root files, only .tar or .tar.md5 extensions are acceptable.
One other thing that I want you to keep in mind is that you will need to enable USB Debugging on your device before you can use Odin with that. For that, go to Setting –> Developer Options and enable it. Other than that, you will need to have Samsung USB Drivers installed on your computer otherwise your computer and Odin won’t recognize your phone or tablet.
How to Download Odin Tool for Windows
If you have understood all about Odin, then its time to download this Samsung flashing tool to flash OTA updates manually, root files or kernels on your any product from Korean giant. Currently Odin v3.10.6 is the latest version followed by v3.09 and v3.07. I recommend to install the latest one.
Once downloaded, extract it and launch the .exe file. Meanwhile if you any question regarding Odin, feel free to ask.
