Root Verizon Galaxy S4 I545 on 5.0.1 Lollipop and Enable Tethering

Verizon in collaboration with Samsung rolled out Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update to their Galaxy S4 I545 variant and usual, users received the update Over the Air (OTA). This time, unexpectedly, Verizon released the update in 2 parts: 1st one was minor OTA update that updated S4 I545 from VRUFNK1 to VRUFNK4 while the 2nd was actual Lollipop update with LRX22C as build number.

Now if you want to update your Verizon Galaxy S4 I545 to official Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and also want to keep root with Tethering enabled, then you have come to right page. Be advised that this guide can only be used to root Verizon Galaxy S4 I545 on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and Enable Tethering so don’t  try it on other Galaxy S4 variants.

Pre-Requirements

  • First and most important thing is to have backup of all your data. We highly recommend all our readers to backup all their important data before proceeding with tutorial.
  • Make sure your Verizon Galaxy S4 I545 is already rooted.
  • Install Verizon Galaxy S4 I545 drivers on your computer.
  • Last but not least, make sure the battery is fully charged before you proceed to root your Verizon Galaxy S4 I545.

Steps to Root Verizon Galaxy S4 I545 on 5.0.1 Lollipop and Enable Tethering

Step 1: First of all download the required files.

Step 2: Connect your Verizon Galaxy S4 I545  to your computer and transfer the I545_OC1_Stock_Rooted_ROM_wNK4_BL.zip to your phone SD card.

Step 3: Also transfer the Fireflash and install it on your mobile. Once done, open that app and tap on “Agree” to terms and conditions.

Step 4: In app interface, tap the rounder “+” two times to open the “Actions” menu.

Step 5: Tap on option “Flash zip or OTA” and select “I545_OC1_Stock_Rooted_ROM_wNK4_BL.zip″. Now the Flashfire will scan the file which can take some time.

Step 6: Before proceeding next, make sure the “Auto-mount” option is unchecked under options menu. If it is, then proceed next by pressing checkmark.

Step 7: Tap the “+” to bring the actions menu and select “Wipe”.

Step 8: Under Options, select all partitions except the internal storage and proceed by pressing the checkmark.

Step 9: In main menu, re-arrange the “Actions” in below order. For that, tap and hold option to drag or arrange that.

  • Wipe
  • Flash ZIP or OTA

Step 10: Keep the EverRoot and Reboot settings default.

Step 11: At last, tap on Lightning bolt and then OK to start the installation process which can take up to 5 minutes.

Once the firmware is installed, you will notice that your phone is updated to Android Lollipop while the root is also kept. Next we will install the WiFi Tethering add-on on Verizon Galaxy S4 I545. For that, follow steps below:

Step 1: Connect your phone to your computer and transfer the Mobile Hotspot Mod file to your phone.

Step 2: Launch the Fireflash app and tap on “+” to bring options menu and select “Flash Zip or OTA”.

Step 3: Browse for G900A_OC4_TetherAddon.zip and select it.

Step 4: Make sure the “Auto-mount” option is unchecked and also leave the default settings of EverRoot and Reboot options .

Step 5: At last, tap the “Lightning bolt” icon and then tap on “OK” to start flashing process.

Now you have successfully rooted Verizon Galaxy S4 I545 on official Android 5.0.1 Lollipop firmware and have also enabled WiFi tethering.
