Samsung is taking good care of its old Galaxy S4 device by releasing regular software update for it. Recently the Korean giant has started rolling out latest Android Lollipop 5.0.1 update for AT&T subscribers of Galaxy S4 users which brings all sort of new features and enhancements including major UI improvements which makes the update pretty handsome in term of size.
Since the update is new so the developers over at XDA-Developers are currently working over it to release root for it. The good news is that have came with solution allowing you to update your AT&T Galaxy S4 to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop while keeping the root and WiFi tethering feature enabled.
Please note that this guide is only meant to update AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 to Lollipop while keeping the root and tethering enabled. Installing this ROM on other device other than mentioned one can result in bricking of your device which can be very disappointing.
- First and most important thing is to have backup of all your data. We highly recommend all our readers to backup all their important data before proceeding with tutorial.
- Make sure you have properly installed your phone USB drivers on your computer.
- Make sure your AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 is already rooted.
- Enable the USB Debugging Mode from Settings –> Developer Options.
- Last but not least, make sure the battery is fully charged before you proceed to root your AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337.

Steps to Update AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 to Lollipop by Keeping Root and Tethering Enabled
Step 1: First of all download the required files. Once done, extract the .rar file to get firmware with .tar extension.
Step 2: Connect your AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 to your computer and transfer the I337_OC3_Stock_Rooted_Firmware.tar.md5 and I337_OC3_Stock_Partitions.zip to your phone.
Step 3: Also transfer the Fireflash and install it on your mobile. Once done, open that app and tap on “Agree” to terms and conditions.
Step 4: In app interface, tap the rounder “+” two times to open the “Actions” menu.
Step 5: Tap on option “Flash firmware package” and select “I337_OC3_Stock_Rooted_Firmware.tar.md5″. Now the Flashfire will scan the file which can take some time.
Step 6: When done with scanning, make sure “Boot” and “System” options are selected and then tap on “OK”.
Step 7: Again tap on “+” icon followed by “Flash Zip or OTA” and select “I337_OC3″_Stock_Partitions.zip”.
Step 8: Before proceeding next, make sure the “Auto-mount” option is unchecked under options menu. If it is, then proceed next by pressing checkmark.
Step 9: Tap the “+” to bring the actions menu and select “Wipe”.
Step 10: Under Options, select all partitions except the internal storage and proceed by pressing the checkmark.
Step 11: In main menu, re-arrange the “Actions” in below order. For that, tap and hold option to drag or arrange that.

- Flash ZIP or OTA
Step 12: Keep the EverRoot and Reboot settings default.
Step 13: At last, tap on Lightning bolt and then OK to start the installation process which can take up to 5 minutes.
Once the firmware is installed, you will notice that your phone is updated to Android Lollipop while the root is also kept. Next we will install the WiFi Tethering add-on on AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337. For that, follow steps below:
Step 1: Connect your phone to your computer and transfer the Mobile Hotspot Mod file to your phone.
Step 2: Launch the Fireflash app and tap on “+” to bring options menu and select “Flash Zip or OTA”.
Step 3: Browse for I337_OC3_TetherAddon.zip and select it.
Step 4: Make sure the “Auto-mount” option is unchecked and also leave the default settings of EverRoot and Reboot options .
Step 5: At last, tap the “Lightning bolt” icon and then tap on “OK” to start flashing process.
Once done, reboot your AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 smartphone. Once the phone reboots, you will be able to enjoy WiFi Tethering on your AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 running on latest official Android Lollipop firmware.
